Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has called on the IFA and the FAI to clarify why the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium appears not to have been included in the joint bid to host the 2023 Under 21 European Championships. The Foyle MP said: “While I welcome that a joint bid for the 2023 U21 European Championships will proceed, I am disappointed that the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium in Derry appears not to have been included in the bid. “This is a big opportunity for the city as the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium epitomises the spirit of all-Ireland football given of its location and the fact it hosts both Derry City FC and Institute FC. "The stadium has recently undergone a successful upgrade and its inclusion in this bid would send a important positive message to young soccer players and fans across the north west. “Ireland works best when it works together and as a city of sporting excellence, Derry should play its role in developing sport on an all-Ireland basis. “I will be writing to both the IFA and FAI seeking clarity about why the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium in Derry does not appear to be included as a potential venue at this stage of the bid."
