Old city shirt manufacturer Smyth & Gibson at Victoria Road has announced it is to close with the loss of 34 jobs.

The company is one of the last remaining makers of handmade shirts in the UK.

In April the company had temporarily laid off 50 staff when it lost a major contract with a key supplier. DUP MLA Gary Middleton posted to say that there is a slight consolation in that 20 of those being made redundant will be taking up new employment with O'Neills Sports.
